A real solution for those who suffer from panic and anxiety
"A real solution for those who suffer from panic and anxiety."
In this wonderful book, Nicola Quinn describes how new discoveries about the
human energy system enable rapid, easy and gentle recovery from anxiety states
and other emotional problems. She tells her own inspiring story of how she
herself recovered from panic attacks using these methods.
Many people experience panic attacks and phobic anxieties at certain periods of
life. These are really very common – and can be extremely disabling and
distressing. Often the sufferer will conceal the extent of the problem because
of feelings of shame. Effective help is not always easily available. Counselling
and other purely talk-based therapies are unlikely to resolve the problem. Drugs
may only mask the symptoms. Many forms of cognitive and behavioural therapy aim
to persuade the person gradually to face the situations that evoke terror, and
try to help him or her to think more rationally – but this is often simply too
difficult for the person in the grip of a phobia, who may end up feeling even
worse when the therapy fails. The problem with conventional forms of treatment
is that they are not easily able to remove the basic reaction of anxiety.
This is where Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), EmoTrance, and other forms of
energy therapy can help. By tapping on the energy system, using similar
principles to those of acupressure, it is possible to release the anxieties and
other troubling emotions very easily and quickly, and without great distress.
Nicola Quinn describes very clearly and in detail how to use EFT to address the
various aspects of phobias and anxieties. The secret of using the method
effectively is in knowing what issues to target when tapping – and Nicola states
all of these explicitly.
Panic attacks and anxiety states often arise when a person has been experiencing
a period of prolonged or severe stress, so that the mind and body are
overwhelmed. He or she may struggle on, trying to cope, not recognising the
extent of the strain. Suddenly there is the experience of panic, a terror of
collapse and a sense of being unable to go on. This state of overwhelming terror
is in itself a further trauma. The sufferer may fear that he or she is going
mad. What then may happen is that the person becomes afraid of a repeat of the
panic – and so the cycle of ‘fear of fear’ sets in. Once this fear of fear is
established it tends to fuel itself and intensify over time, since every flicker
of anxiety will evoke the fear of panic, thus generating further anxiety. A
method is required that can break into this vicious cycle of anxiety – and EFT
is exactly that.
Nicola Quinn’s book provides both encouragement and a real solution to the
sufferer from panic and anxiety. EFT is supported by very good research and is
now used by some doctors and other practitioners within the NHS. However, Nicola
knows these problems from her own experience – and her recovery is a magnificent
testimony to the effectiveness of the methods she describes.
